INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN OF SOLIDARITY WITH NONVIOLENCE IN IRAQ

From 10-19 October 2008 the III Week of Nonviolence in Iraq will be celebrated, organized by the LaOnf Network (LaOnf means ”nonviolence” in Arabic)

♀ Various European and North American organizations will give their support to this initiative of the Iraqi civil society, which seeks to make known the nonviolent alternatives in their country. Some 120 organizations from all over Iraq and from all religious and ethnic communities are members of LaOnf.

♀ Starting on 10 October 2008 and for 7 days, LaOnf will carry out direct actions in the streets, schools, hospitals, parks and other public spaces in the 18 provinces of Iraq to promote nonviolence as an alternative to collaboration with the occupation and armed resistance. Nonviolence is espoused as an effective strategy to build peace in Iraq based on respect for human rights and to promote a culture of peace.

WOMEN IN BLACK AGAINST WAR (of Madrid):

Call for solidarity with the LaOnf Network in order to make known their proposals for reconstruction of harmonious living in Iraqi civil society, along with their rejection of war, challenging all the armed groups, and express their invitation to the Iraqi people to renounce violence.

We want to call on reason and solidarity, a call for peace, a call for nonviolent struggle. There is hope for Iraq.

Collaborating in this campaign are: NOVA (Barcelona), MAN (France), Un Ponte per Bagdad (Italy), Voices in the Wilderness and September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows (USA), and the International Network of Women in Black Against War.
