CONVOCATION 29 June 2025: For Peace, No to NATO, No to Rearmament
For Peace, No to NATO, No to Rearmament
Women in Black, in keeping with our search for a global and lasting peace that will guarantee the life of humanity and the survival of the planet, denounce the threat implied by the increase in weaponry and risk of the use of nuclear weapons.
We oppose delegating to NATO the tasks and functions that correspond to the United Nations because we do not believe that it will lead us to peace, rather to catastrophe. We reject that our tax money be destined to an increase in military spending when money is lacking for public services, education and health. The principles of NATO are contrary to the needs of the people of the countries that are members. It does not seek peaceful cooperation among the countries nor does it have the agreement of the national parliaments to set up their strategy of war. In many cases, it even contradicts the constitutional principles of the member states.
As previous conferences of Women for Peace Against NATO have denounced, we believe that naming women to managerial positions in a military war organization will not advance the feminist principles of equality, justice and peace. The claimed feminization of NATO seems to us like a trick to deceive the people. It seems to us that Resolution 1325 has failed in its initial proposal to get more participation of women in the tables of negotiation about conflicts (except in some cases as in Colombia). We regret that this Resolution has resulted in the militarization of more women rather than to encourage their participation in international dialog and mediation.
We join the declarations of the Summit on Peace for worldwide rejection of NATO because of what it implies regarding the militarization of society and reduction of our rights. We continue saying: military expenditures for schools and hospitals.
Facing the NATO summit which will take place at The Hague 24-26 June of 2025, we back The Alternative Summit Against European Rearmament and for Peace, 20-21 June in Madrid and regarding the 2% of GDP increase in investment for defense, we propose:
♀ That more be invested in health, care and education for peace.
♀ That respect for diversity, cooperation and peaceful coexistence be fostered among people and nations in the media, in politics and in all spheres of coexistence.
♀ That NATO be abolished along with their turbulent summits.
