Against gender violence in times of rearmament In 2024 the number of female victims of gender violence was 34,684. That is 1.6 for every 1000 women over the age of 14, with 48 women killed. In 2025, up until November 5th, 36 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners. Since 2003, 1293 women have died as a result of gender-based violence. If all of these deaths had been due to other circumstances, a national emergency would likely have been declared, or all possible resources would have been mobilized to tackle the problem. However, not only is it not deemed to be an emergency, but we are hearing sexist and patriarchal rhetoric again that we thought was a thing of the past. We oppose delegating to NATO the tasks and functions that correspond to the United Nations because we do not believe that it will lead us to peace, rather to catastrophe. We reject that our tax money be destined to an increase in military spending when money is lacking for public services, education and health. The principles of NATO are contrary to the needs of the people of the countries that are members. War Against Infants and Women in Sudan and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Some of the bloodiest and most cruel armed conflicts are happening now in the Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). According to the UN, since 2023, twelve million people have been internally displaced in Sudan and more than three million have taken refuge in neighboring countries. The DRC is following a similar path with more than one million people displaced in 2025. An especially serious matter is the sexual violence that women and girls suffer in these conflicts, including rape, forced marriages (in many cases, infants), sexual slavery, kidnapping and removal to other countries for sexual exploitation, coercion to maintain sexual relations in exchange for food, illnesses caused by sexual transmission, injuries, lack of access to contraceptive methods, etc., without forgetting suicides to avoid dishonor and trauma. What scares us is rearmament Profoundly outraged, we listen to the announced alarming increase in European military spending (up to 800 billion € in 4 years). This rearmament will no t bring more security to Europe. It is not going to bring us security because it never has. We are worried that we are headed towards a new world war. What we fear is the threat of a war, the very same thing those which sustain the rearmament initiative argue. Rearmament, however, is the best way to start a war, not to avoid it. Nuclear Weapons, NO, Thank You Currently, it is known that five countries have nuclear weapons deployed: the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and China, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. There are indications that Israel also has this type of weapon. Iran has developed the technology for enriching uranium, supposedly to generate nuclear energy but suspicions from the West have led to their suspension as a member of the Security Council. In 2024 the organization Nihon Hidankyo received the Nobel Peace Prize for its testimonial and informational work against nuclear weapons. It is formed by the survivors of the atomic bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, who also continue investigating the additional effects of those explosions. Against the Pedagogies of Hatred This January 30th we will again celebrate the DENYP (School Day of Non-Violence and Peace). Our educational centers should not limit themselves to hanging up doves of peace. It is necessary to open a profound debate on what is happening in our classrooms and this globalizing world in which we live. When school is neutral, it doesn’t obtain social transformation.
