CONVOCATION 29 October 2023: Facing the Armed Conflict in Palestine

Imagen
Facing the Armed Conflict in Palestine These days in Palestine and Israel we are seeing all sorts of war crimes and crimes against humanity being committed, which causes us profound sadness. The Hamas offensive against the civil population of Israel is neither justifiable nor defensible from any point of view. The response of Israel against the people of Gaza even less so; it is genocide. The situation of the people of Palestine has been unsustainable for many years, as demonstrated by the tally of civilian victims in information from the UN . The State of Israel has not respected any of the resolutions aimed at achieving peace in the area. Palestinians have been seeing for years how they destroy their houses, pull up their olive trees, poison their wells and detain or kill their loved ones without any justification. The current offensive of the government of Israel makes it clear that they are not seeking the defense of their people, rather the extermination of the people of ...

CONVOCATION September 25th 2023: Let’s build a social Europe

Imagen
Let’s Build a Social Europe On 1 July the government of Spain assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union and during these six months, there will be summits of the ministers of the various areas. On 5 and 6 October it is the turn of the chiefs of state and government, who will meet in Granada at the Summit of the Alhambra. Facing these governmental meetings, a multitude of social, neighborhood, union and political collectives will participate in the Granada Social Summit 2023, during which they will carry out all sorts of activities and mobilizations to manifest that another Europe is possible and that there exist other social models. Women in Black want to denounce that the EU makes a show of defending human rights, peace and diplomacy as a way of managing international relations. Nevertheless, in fact, it carries out genocidal security measures at the southern border and does not cease to add fuel to the fire to the war in Ukraine based on their cont...

CONVOCATION 25th June 2023: For Global Security

For Global Security After the First World War, the League of Nations (LN) was created. It proposed to establish the basis for peace and reorganization of international relations, with mediation, conciliation and negotiation to avoid or solve conflicts among countries, and also to promote disarmament and collective security. The League of Nations never had sufficient authority to impose its resolutions and was not able to avoid the Second World War. When the Second W. War was over, 50 nations ratified the Foundational Charter creating the United Nations . The Security Council was established to maintain international peace and security. All agreed to comply with the resolutions, but only five members of the permanent council had the right to veto, a veto with which they have always avoided approving any resolution that implicates one of them or their partners. Thus, China, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Russia have systematically violated international law....

CONVOCATION 28 May 2023: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN FOR PEACE AND DISARMAMENT

24 May, International Day of Women for Peace and Disarmament A feminist look at the struggle for peace It was the feminist antimilitarism that coined the slogan Neither war that destroys us, nor peace that oppresses and at this time women from all over the world celebrate 24 May as the International Day of Women for Peace and Disarmament. Since the 80s we remember the struggles of women such as the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp protesting against nuclear weapons and the arms race taking place in the world. Once again, on this date we reclaim the incorporation of women in the peace processes. We know that since 1915, when more than a thousand women met at the International Congress of Women at The Hague , it was possible to give women visibility and the opportunity to participate actively in the advances of everything that concerned peace, in search of a more just and worthy society free from bellicose confrontations and war. Despite the adverse conditions and dang...

CONVOCATION 30 April 2023: CLIMATE CRISIS AND MILITARY EXPENDITURE

CLIMATE CRISIS AND MILITARY EXPENDITURE We are in the period of income tax returns and it is the time to talk again about how our taxes are spent. We are told that the Spanish military budget must go up 2% because that is what NATO requires of us. That would amount to raising the military expenditures as much as all that was destined for protection of the environment in 2020. The military budget has not ceased to rise since the 90’s, and no one has yet seen how this budget benefits the common good. Nevertheless, the climate crisis is more worrisome and its consequences more palpable: for example, it is predicted that with the rise in global temperature, the olive harvest could be reduced by 20%, and this year because of the drought almost all the harvest of grains will be lost. The world population is increasingly sensitized to the degree of destruction our civilization is causing on the Planet. In addition, in the majority of armed conflicts there are underlying interests in...

CONVOCATION 26 March 2023: Complying with International Treaties

Imagen
Complying with International Treaties There have always been women who have opposed wars. In 1915 women organized to try to stop the First World War. Overcoming many obstacles from their governments, they came from countries at war with one another and crossed enemy lines on their way to The Hague. They did not succeed in stopping the massacre but the declaration from The Hague that spoke of dialog and collaboration established the basis for the Society of Nations. Since then, various international treaties have been signed. Although they have not managed to end wars, we think it is important that they exist, especially when there is an open war with the threat of using nuclear weapons. Despite everything, the citizens have a basis for denouncing failure to comply with treaties and exert pressure for their fulfillment: the treaty of International Law, which regulates relations between countries and does not permit invasion of the countries, along with the conventions, norms an...
