January 30, School Day of Nonviolence: Wars are Prepared Day by Day

January 30, School Day of Nonviolence: Wars are Prepared Day by Day From the standpoint of our feminist, anti-militarist and nonviolent ideology, Women in Black against war believe that war is not innate to the human being, rather it is a cultural response developed and fed by sundry powers. Being a learned response, we can also unlearn it. It is not enough to be against violence and war, one must analyze the causes that produce them in order to be able to avoid them. The tendency of our governments to maintain the privileges of the most favored with walls and fences; illegal returns of those without papers; refusal of asylum, violating signed international laws; denial of the universal right to health services; stigmatization of emigrants because of the notion that they take away jobs or consume our resources and the reversal in the rights of women are the way to promote values that respond to a social model of violence fomenting fear and disdain for people who are different...

Statement 27 December 2020: Neither docile, submissive nor silent

NEITHER DOCILE, SUBMISSIVE NOR SILENT “ For me it is essential to always move forward from the patriarchal culture of war to my feminist culture and vision of peace .” Annelise Ebbe 8 marzo 2019. Plaza de Cibeles, Madrid During the year 2020, we Mujeres de Negro (Women in Black) have expressed our opinion about various current topics that have seemed especially important to us. We want to say farewell to this year by giving a brief review of these topics and focusing on the future with renewed petitions. We want to declare our commitment to Education for Peace , which seems totally relevant today, because we consider it essential to build a just society that will reduce inequalities, that will protect itself and that will offer nonviolent paths to deal with conflicts. It is fundamental for all people to develop these skills and to put these tools into practice, especially the young people, who are our future. The feminist demands of 8 March 2020 came together surrounding ...

Convocatoria 25 november, day for elimination of violence against women

Imagen
25 NOVEMBER, DAY FOR ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN   Violence against women is increasing during the pandemic One of the greatest scourges suffered by humankind is violence against women. Societies evolve in achieving rights, but the fundamental right, the right to life, is taken away from thousands of women. Assassinations of women continue everywhere on the planet and among all social classes. One in three women in the world suffers violence by men . To eradicate this blight, the United Nations approved the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women on 20 December 1993 and established 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. In the first article of the declaration, the UN understands violence against women to mean every act of violence based on belonging to the feminine gender that results or could result in harm or physical, sexual or psychological suffering for women, including threats of such acts, coe...

Women who opposed the first world war

WOMEN WHO OPPOSED THE FIRST WORLD WAR Women in Black against War, Madrid. Madrid. Malatesta Publishing House. 2018. Pages 155.    In the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the First World War that began in 2014, there were many publications dedicated to the war, its origins, development, consequences and effects on the population and the new frontiers. At a time in modern history when there were initiatives and hopes for the elimination of borders, voices were raised that saw the war that was being prepared as a way of separating and pitting populations, and both the war itself and its consequences were going to affect all areas of society in a catastrophic way. In the big amount of publications generated by the centenary, the references we found to opposition to the war were minimal and poor, but they seemed to us to be only the top of the iceberg. From the beginning of our search the findings were numerous and very valuable. They seemed to us to be so current i...
