24 May International Day of Women for Peace and Disarmament

Imagen
TP Disarmament Camp Images 11th July 2017 This day has been commemorated since 1982 in remembrance of the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp against the use of nuclear weapon. Women in Black against War join this commemoration because we believe that wars are a crime against humanity, which harms mostly women. On this day, we encourage the citizenry to reflect on the causes of war. If we want to avoid wars, we must take action on the factors that are their breeding ground and work for a world that is safer and kinder in which we can live in peace and develop the human values of solidarity, justice and equality in duties and rights. As recognized by the United Nations, and as we have learned from the current pandemic, safety is not provided by the armies or the forces of law and order. We should be talking about food security, environmental, community and economic security, etc. From our beginnings, Women in Black against wars have been working for a world without violence i...

Fiscal Objection to Military Expenditures (Disobedience, COVID and much more)

As always, around this time in spring one of the flowers of civil disobedience blooms: fiscal objection to military expenditures. And it flowers now because it is the time when we pay part of our taxes through the income tax return, the feared IRPF. (Impuesto Sobre la Renta de las Personas Físicas/Personal Income Tax). A certain amount of these taxes, not inconsiderable, is dedicated to maintaining the entire military complex from maneuvers with live ammunition at the Reserva Natural de las Bardenas Reales of Navarra, to the foreign missions of the Armed Forces (17 missions on 4 continents with a budget in 2020 of 758 million Euros. And let us not forget the export of weapons eventually being used against Yemen. We could stop to think about the effectiveness of a tank facing a pandemic with global consequences. The concept of “Defense” has been restricted to the Armed Forces that protect us from foreign threats, when in reality the threats come from elsewhere. A better defense would ...

Objeción Fiscal a los Gastos Militares. (Desobediencia, COVID y muchas más balas)

Imagen

Facing the social emergency, feminism is essential!

Imagen
Facing the social emergency, Feminism is essential! Even in the context of the pandemic, no one can silence us, hence our shout. A shout with which we refer to all oppression against us, the women, which has multiplied during the coronavirus crisis, as we are the ones who have most suffered from the effects of unemployment and need for caregiving. Within our right to demonstrate, we will decorate balconies and windows, those spaces that during the pandemic have been our contact with the outside. We will all, all be together in the streets, dressed in purple, violet, lilac and blue and we will shout out for our rights, the rights of all women. In our shout, we will reclaim all that at this time seems essential: energy, water, housing, care giving, defense of public services, anti-racism, dissent, sex and gender identity, an unconditional basic income for all and also the planetary emergency and global disarmament. We reject precariousness and macho violence. Since no one can s...

We celebrate the prohibition of nuclear weapons

On 22 January 2021, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) entered into force. The treaty was approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations.   The countries that have atomic weapons, the United States, United Kingdom, France, China and Russia (permanent members of the Security Council of the UN, with right to a veto) and the NATO countries, including Spain, did not attend the meeting, did not participate in voting, and have not ratified or signed the treaty. According to Antonio Guterres, TPNW “has been the culmination of a worldwide movement.” Between 6 and 9 August 1945, the United States President Harry S. Truman, ordered the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.   These are the only two atomic attacks in history.   More than 246,000 persons died, the majority civilians, a high percentage of whom have not yet been identified, and the bombing has continued causing illnesses to this day. The Second World War had been almost won by the Allie...
